Topics covered included the latest advances in IP (internet protocol) technology, which reduces cabling costs and allows advanced networking functions.  Intercoms for disabled refuges to BS5839 Part 9 have wide spread application, and workshop leader Greg Gregoriou outlined how IP Intercom systems can grow to include many other functions, such as Help Points, access control, site communications, security, etc.  A number of very impressive displays were given - two of the most notable showed the COMWIN software that runs on a standard PC and the new IP intercom station with built-in CCTV camera.

COMWIN can provide an overall picture of a site and then zoom into a specific location when an event occurs - for example if a Help Point button is pushed or a system fault is self diagnosed.  Icons illuminate to indicate the intercom concerned and identify the reason for its activation.  An additional programme called COMWIN Reporter is available to log all system event statistics, as may be required for management, maintenance, legal reasons, etc.

The new IP intercom station with built-in CCTV Camera enables IP connection for both the intercom and the camera to a designated security room or reception area.  When the button is activated, the call is routed via IP to the relevant location, and the guard or receptionist can then see and speak to the caller and either allow or deny access.

During the workshop, Complus Teltronic had numerous technical and commercial staff in attendance to ensure all visitor questions could be answered.  Survey sheets returned after each event have shown overwhelmingly that visitors have found the workshops to be educational, interesting and well worthwhile.  For this reason, Complus Teltronic will be running more workshops in 2008.  To register interest in attending a workshop in the next series, please click here.
