HID provides state-of-the-art vascular biometric solution
Identica Holdings has teamed up with HID Global to provide vascular biometric solution

Identica Holdings Corporation recently announced that it has partnered with HID Global, to provide a state-of-the-art vascular biometric solution to the entire franchise of Club Fitness centers, a 25-year-old chain located across the St. Louis, MO metro area.

Identica, a leader in next-generation biometric identification and security solutions, will embed secure iCLASS® contactless smart card technology from HID Global, the trusted leader in providing solutions for the delivery of secure identity, into their VP-II vascular hand scanners.  This combined technology has currently been installed at three locations and Club Fitness anticipates the use of the vascular biometric reader at 11 additional locations.

"We tested a number of different biometric technologies, including fingerprint and iris readers, but only Identica's vascular readers were able to perform accurately in outdoor environments where we needed our security solution to be installed,"  said Rich Quin, director of IT for Club Fitness.  "Coupled with HID Global's iCLASS contactless smart cards, we now have a secure solution allowing our members the ability to effortlessly access our facilities at any time, throughout the day, and also quickly filtering out non-members from gaining entry."

Identica's VP-II scanner utilizes patented recognition algorithms to capture and encrypt individuals' unique vascular patterns on the back of the human hand.  The individual presents HID's iCLASS® card, which stores an encrypted template of the user's uniquevascular pattern on the card, to the reader.  The user then presents his or her hand to the scanner and the live vascular pattern is matched to the stored template, identifying the individual in 0.1 seconds, verifying their identity and that they are a Club Fitness member.

"By embedding an iCLASS OEM module into the VP-II vascular reader, Identica has been able to leverage the power and security of iCLASS contactless smart card technology,"  said Debra Spitler, vice president of HID Connect.  "The end result is a security solution offering that provides the end-user with unparalleled security and value."

The VP-II units deployed at Club Fitness are equipped with Identica's WeatherShield heated outdoor enclosures, supporting operation in all weather conditions, as well as free-standing pedestals where secure wall mounting is not possible.  The VP-II scanners also use Antimicrobial Silver Treatment, which kills 99.9 percent of germs and offers 99.98 percent system usability (99.98 percent of the entire population is able to use the system).

"Though the prevailing thought is that our biovascular technology is only applicable to highly secure areas, like ports or casinos, we developed our vascular readers to have an inherent ease-of-use and eventually be deployed in high-traffic, practical areas,"  said Terry Wheeler, president of Identica Holdings Corporation.  "Club Fitness' deployment of our technology at their locations is a real demonstration of the VP-II's practicability."
