RISCO’s intruder detectors secure Hong Kong schools
ProSYS integrated security system is reliable, user-friendly and allows easy expansion
Recent increased funding in the Hong Kong Education Department to enhance IT education in the school system resulted in the introduction of PCs, laptops and LCD projectors in over 90% of classrooms. Predictably, these contributed to an increase in break-ins and robberies throughout the school system.

The challenge

Advanced security systems, providing a solution to all of the following challenges, were required for all Hong Kong schools:

  • Campuses typically cover 7 or 8 floors containing over 40 classrooms.
  • Previous security systems had high false alarms due to poor detector quality and absence of voice verification capabilities.
  • Due to the large areas covered including playing fields, it was imperative that the security system included Hybrid Wireless capability, for protecting areas where wiring was not practical.
  • The system had to be scalable to allow future upgrades, including TCP/IP capabilities and integrated access control.

The solution

Gammon Security and Technology Ltd., a well-established security installation company in Hong Kong proposed installing RISCO Group's ProSYS Integrated Security Systems and iWISE detectors. Following extensive bench testing, The Security Managers responsible for the upgrades determined that ProSYS was the best match for the project due to its reliability, user-friendliness and easy expansion.

Highlights

The ProSYS voice module enables audio verification of alarm via landline or mobile phones, and allows the school's security officers to listen-in to events in real-time to determine if the alarm is a genuine intrusion or a false alarm.

ProSYS's hybrid wireless capability enables use of a complete range of wireless detectors and transmitters in areas in which the installers were unable to lay wires. The iWISE detectors with ACT™ - Rokonet's revolutionary Anti-Cloak™ Technology for detecting camouflaged burglars - have been instrumental in improving catch performance and reducing false alarms. When the systems are upgraded to include access control, seamless implementation will be achieved due to the integrated access control options of ProSYS.

The customer's point of view

The schools' security managers are completely satisfied with their choice of the ProSYS systems - the high level of reliability, easy operation and the fact that all their needs were met. So far twenty ProSYS installations have already been completed in Hong Kong Schools by Gammon, with many more in the pipeline. Gammon plans to expand its already successful penetration into the Hong Kong market with ProSYS and RISCO Group's full range of detectors and other security solutions.
